Wind Orchestra “Gasparo Bertolotti” Salo
Andrea Oddone-director
Silvia Chiesa-cello
A not everyone knows that the legendary pianist Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) was also a composer: it was his practice, unorthodox, to combine jazz and classical forms to give him the nickname “terrorist pianist”. His Concerto for cello and orchestra, woodwinds is the song chosen this year by the Orchestra of Wind Instruments “Gasparo da Salò” to continue his adventure as part of the festival, an original adventure that allows a band imprinted on the wind to marry an exhibition dedicated to the arches. The soloist is Silvia Chiesa, Italian cellist of the most successful internationally. Written in 1981, the Cello Concerto is considered one of the most representative works of Gulda, where the composer seems to seek the maximum contrast of styles, playing on the friction between the classical forms and performance practices of the big-band jazz in America.
Saturday, August 2nd
Domenico Nordio-violin and viola
Francesca Dego-violin
Orchestra of Padua and Veneto
Two of the best Italian violinists join forces to create a wonderful program entirely devoted to Mozart, performed together with an orchestra of unquestionable quality. The program includes pages not at all obvious, as Concertone in C major for two violins and orchestra, and an absolute masterpiece, beloved by the public, what is the Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola that will allow Nordio to attempt also as a violist.
