Sirmione becomes the summer capital of puppetry.

The seventeenth edition of the exhibition dedicated to this particular theatre art that uses puppets, marionettes, and objects as protagonists of a play and signs of a strongly visual language will continue throughout the month of August.

Among the best known and appreciated techniques are glove puppets, stick puppets, and puppets with strings, also known as shadow puppets, silhouette puppets, dummy dolls, and marionettes. Sirmione launched a summer festival of
puppets 17 years ago without much fanfare. Currently organized by Mantua’s Corniani Theatre Centre and art director Maurizio Corniani, the initiative eventually caught on with children and parents and is now a national event.

The shows for the month of August will all be on Monday at 9pm: ‘Gran varietà dei Ciarlatani’ a vaudeville type show by the Rimini’s Company of Charlatans on the 3rd and ‘A swarm of puppets, puppets travelling on three wheels and a bee’ on the 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st, with innumerable variations on the theme.

Admission is free.
