Bobo Stenson, one of the most representative pianists of the contemporary European scene, is linked to the ECM record label that has revolutionized the sound of modern jazz producing European artists and promoting the encounter between African-American music and European musical tradition. Swedish, Stenson has been active since the early sixties when he started to play in Stockholm and to accompany a many American musicians including Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz and Gary Burton. He also collaborated with trumpeter Don Cherry, from the moment he moved in Scandinavia. But the reputation of Stenson reaches the top through collaborations with Tomasz Stanko, with saxophonist Charles Lloyd, with Jan Garbarek and especially with the disks in a trio with bassist Arild Andersen and drummer Jon Christensen. Refined pianist, with a strong lyrical sense, a master of improvisation, Bobo has a particular sensitivity and ability to capture the heart of things and at the same time bring it in new and unexpected places.
