Il Palazzo was originally built circa 1590 as the home of a nobleman and over the centuries it has been utilised as a convent, a Town Hall and an important restaurant. In more recent years Il Palazzo was converted into 18 apartments, many of which are the second homes of Italians living in towns such Brescia, Milan and Verona, who use them as holiday homes. A few of the apartments are owned by English and Dutch families.

The communal pool is set in a pretty garden with the stunning façade of the Il Palazzo on one side and the breath-taking backdrop of the lake on the other. The pool is open from mid May until the end of September, most of the other apartments are used  mainly during July and August, or at weekends in June and September, you quite often get that feeling of having the whole of Il Palazzo to yourself.

Although the location gives you that feeling of seclusion you are actually only ten to fifteen minutes away from the waterfront in the historic centre of the lakeside town of Salo.  Salo is one of the most beautiful lake side town and boasts the longest ‘lungolago’ (promenade), full of restaurants, bars, cafes and geletaria, where  you can sample amazing Italian food, or just watch the world go by whilst enjoying an aperitivo or gelato.

The nearest supermarket and other shops are just ten minutes drive away. There is a Trattoria/bar less a 10 mins walk away which serves fantastic traditional local food .

Il Palazzo is also perfectly situated for wine lovers, with the wine region of the Valtenesi, famous for it’s red wines such as Groppello and Marzemino just on the doorstep.  Driving for just 20 minutes you could easily pass thirty cantinas selling fantastic wine.  A thirty minute drive will take you to the south of the lake and the Lugana wine region, known for it’s excellent wines of the same name.
