The Tourist Coop of the Valtenesi places a day on the beach at number three in the Top Ten Things To Do In Lake Garda, with 45km of Lake Garda beaches you are never too far away to try one out. With the exception of two or three that have been layered with sand all Lake Garda beaches are formed with shingle, but that doesn’t mean that they are all the same…..there are beaches for every taste.

You can find small secluded beaches where you can stretch out and do nothing but soak up the rays, these hidden gems are easier to find in the northern mountainous region. There are beaches with water sports such as wind and kite surfing in northern towns such as Campione, Limone, Riva, Torbole and Torri. There are beaches where you can rent out kayaks and pedlos as in Manerba and Moniga. There are beaches with music pumping out of lively bars and beaches where chill out music floats gently on the breeze, a particular favourite of mine being the Mokai beach in Salo.

In fact Salo beach is my favaourite beach; It has fantastic views across to the mountains and out over the bay and a fantastic atmosphere which can go from lively to chilled out all in one day. It is a beach that is shared equally by the tourists and the locals. I love watching the older generation sitting  around square table playing animated games of cards or dominos….I love watching the little kids splashing about in the shallow waters close to the beach, and the older kids diving  in off the jetties (I usually join them)……..I love taking my aperitivo in one of the three bars, the Mokai, the Conco D’oro or……..the one on the road which I don’t know the name of but it has a retro feeling which jaunts you back to bygone days.

If you haven’t already been then a day out on Salo beach is definitely worth a visit if your looking to cross off number three of the Top Ten Things To Do In Lake Garda.
