About Citari

The Citari vineyards are situated in the amazing countryside of San Martino della Battaglia. This little gem of a cantina lies in the shadow of the monumental tower which was erected to commemorate the famous battle, fought during the Second War of Independance. This family run winery, with the help of Francesca, prides itself on producing quality wine with the most up to date methods, whilst maintaining traditional values. They are one of only a few wineries that are still producing wine from the Tocai San Martino della Battaglia grape which has been grown in the area since Roman times.

The family take the business very seriously and are doing everything to ensure that quality of the facilities match the quality of the wine. If you visit the cantina shop you will see that everything is brand new as the family strive to provide a first class service for their customers in a first class facility. An organised tour comprises of a tasting in the cantina, with a buffet, followed by a walk trough the vines, where you will be given an explanation of the company’s wine making processes and ideology.

Citari produce a number of prestigious wines each with there own unique character using only traditional Lugana and San Martino grapes.

Garda Classico Rosso DOC
It is ruby red in colour. On the nose it transmits sense of bush fruits accompanied by notes of spice and balsamic vinegar, a light floral bouqet that recalls roses and violet which amplifies its olfactive complexity.
On the palate the pleasant softness compliments the wines flavour and balanced freshness.
Grape varieties: Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese, Barbera DOC

San Martino Della Battaglia
Pale, yellow straw colour.  Very delicate on the nose, has an aroma of white flowers and fresh almonds.
Elegant on the palate, it expresses a grace which highlights a balance in taste that reinforces the sensation on the nose, with an almond after taste.

Alcohol content: 13%

Lugana Vigneto La Torre
Pale yellow straw colour with glimmers of bright green when young and golden hues with ageing. On the nose it is intense and full with an aroma on white flowers and fresh fruit, with intense citrus notes.
The breadth, the structure and complexity of this wine are typical of this grape variety.

Lugana Vigneto La Conchiglia
Pale yellow straw colour with glimmers of bright green when young and golden hues with ageing. On the nose it is the fragrance of fresh fruit and in particular references to apple and white peach with pleasant citrus notes.
The breadth, the structure and complexity of this wine are typical of this grape variety.

Lugana Sorgente
Pale yellow straw colour with distinct glimmers of bright green. It presents good intensity on the nose with clear and pleasant notes of grapefruit and slightly unripe strawberries.
It is dry and gently balanced on the palate whilst maintaining a characteristic freshness.

Lugana Terre Bianche
Pale yellow straw colour with distinct glimmers of bright green. It presents good intensity on the nose with notes of citrus, apple and ripe peach.
It is medium dry and balanced on the palate whilst maintaining an interesting characteristic freshness.

Alcohol content: 12.5%

Garda Classico Chiaretto 18 e Quarantacinque
Light and pink in colour with a slight glimmers of ruby. It is fine on the nose, pleasantly intense and fruity. You can detect notes of cherry peach and ripe exotic fruit:mango, lychee and pineapple.
On the palate it is dry and harmonious, with excellent persistence and character. It gives a a light aftertaste of bitter almonds.

Citari Lugana BRUT
Pale yellow straw colour with a bright aspect. The perlage is extremely fine, refined, numerous and persistent. Fragrant on the nose with an intense and complex floral bouquet, distinct notes of white flowers and hawthorn, followed by a pleasing final note of almond.
On the palate it is full, creamy and persistent, it has body with a pleasant freshness.

Grappa di Lugana
Manovine grappa, distilled from Lugana grapes, it is bright and crystal clear. On the nose you can detect banana, hazelnut and sage with hints of elderberry; there is a hint of medlar and rosehip.
To taste it is refined and elegant with a hint of sweetness; it gently conquers the palate rather than attacking it.
