What we think
The spiedo is served with polenta and a jug of the cooking butter which is infused with the flavour from the meat and sage leaves. You also get to select from a colorful salad trolley with an array of tasty local salads dishes. Whatever you do don’t be too greedy because you will regret it when they come around with the desert trolley. This is when things get difficult because trying to choose between the sumptuous looking homemade deserts is almost impossible. My personal favourites include a riccotta cheesecake with a blueberry topping, torta di mele (apple cake), hand crafted profiteroles and an almond cake.
Don’t worry if Spiedo isn’t your thing the menu is full of amazing local specialities, homely cusine prepared to a very high standard.
Hotel Colomber is located in hills above Gardone Riviera, close to the heart of the Garda National Park, and is just 5 km from the shores of the lake . The hotel has been lovingly run by the Bertella family since 1928. The hotel is set in a green and peaceful valley between Mount Spino and Mount Pizzocolo, where you may experience some good walking, hikes and mountain bike trails. It is right next door to the Garda BigSur Hangliding and Paragliding centre , so it is possible after lunch to let your lunch go down whilst watching the parachutes and hangliders float gently down from the mountains above. Or you could even book a tandem flight in the morning and then have a wonderful lunch at the hotel…….now that would be special.

Sue and I agree! we had a lovely afternoon there!
What a wonderful place! The beautiful drive up and down the mountain is half the pleasure. And the walking trails nearby allow for a nice stretch after eating far too much spiedo! The food is incredible. Top of my list for non-lakeside eating!
Going to give this a try this summer 2014! Thanks Roy!
