“Laura and Aurelio total dedication and an eye to the sky, with the help of his sons Simon and Gilberto, have cultivated a simple life tied to the rhythms of the earth …”

About Cobue

Cobue, located in the shadow of the famous Tower of San Martino (The Spy of Italy), has been producing wine since 1971 when it was converted from a farm by the family Gettuli. Now the family  winery is owned by Aurelio Castoldi and his wife Laura who’s passions are shared by sons Simon and Gilberto who help them run the business.

Their philosophy, which is fuelled by a genuine love of the Earth and combined with many years of experience and utter professionalism, is to produce a product which is high in quality and true to the local area, and that does not yield to the compromises of the market place.

10 hectares of vines are planted on the estate which actually covers 25 hectares. The actual farm consists of three building, two of which date back centuries, where you can still find the remains of an old monastery, whilst the other is a state of the art cantina and cellar which was completed in 2013. It was designed in such a way that it blends entirely with natural landscape of the morenic hills, and utilises the natural elements earth, air and water to ensure the wine is produced and stored in perfect conditions.

If you are lucky to bump into Aurelio when you visit you can’t fail to be taken in by his love and enthusiasm for his wine which he is only too eager to share with you. His son Gilberto is equally passionate and speaks perfect English so he can give you a fantastic insight into the philosophy and processes that produce the fantastic wine of Cobue. My favourite wine is a red which was named Getulio, in honour of the family responsible for the inauguration of Cobue, but the Lugana and San Martino della Battaglia whites, are also fantastic…..indeed all the wines are.
